Call for UNESCO PP project proposals for 2026-2027
1. Introduction:
In the framework of UNESCO Participatory Program (PP), Rwanda National Commission for UNESCO (CNRU) has the pleasure to invite all Rwandans who meet with the requirements to submit the projects for small grants aligned with UNESCO major program namely:
Education and Youth,
Science and Technology,
Communication and Information,
Culture and Social Human Science
2. Who may Apply:
A Non-Government Organizational, Government institution (Ministries, Public agencies, Schools, High Learning Institutions), Individuals can apply for Grant from UNESCO Participation Programme (PP) to finance their project related to the educational /scientific material or equipment purchase, publication, conference/workshops organization.
3. Required documents:
Application letter addressed to the Director General of UNESCO through Secretary General of Rwanda National Commission for UNESCO
Recommendation letter from the Minister in charge of sector related to the project proposal, In case projects is from public institutions or individual civil servants
Recommendation letter from High Learning and research institution or Head of Universities for Academia and research projects
Recommendation letter from Mayor of District in case projects from Individuals, Schools, or NGO’s operating at district level
Work Certificate for cooperatives or NGOs
4. Application procedures and deadline:
Applications will be sent through Rwanda National Commission for UNESCO official emails: comnatrwanda@unesco.rw or info@unesco.rw; by 31st January, 2026
5. Complementary information:
Following items are not sponsored: Construction, Buying Cars, Payment of salaries of the employees
The UNESCO financial support to the selected project will note exceeding 26,000 USD ($)
The 2 Languages for project proposals are: English or French
7 projects will be selected and submitted to UNESCO/Participatory Program HQ for approval and support;
Examples of types of assistance: Conferences, meetings, training, equipment, study or research grants, consultant fees, publications, documentation, translation, reproduction

1. LIST OF SELECTED PROJECTS FOR UNESCO PP 2026-2027
In the framework of the UNESCO Participation Program, CNRU has received 80
Project proposals from different public and private institutions, NGOs, and individuals. After a long process of evaluation of these projects by technical sub-commissions which proceeded by choosing the best sixteen (16) projects that were presented later to the CNRU General Assembly members on February 25, 2026, for the final selection of 7 best projects to be submitted to UNESCO/PP 2026-2027 Secretariat.
The outcome of the selection process is as follows:
1. Empowering the protection, preservation, and Promotion of Rwanda’s documentary Heritage through The National Memory of the World Committee

In the framework of the UNESCO Participation Program, CNRU has received 154
Project proposals from different public and private institutions, NGOs, and individuals. After a long process of evaluation of these projects by technical sub-commissions which proceeded by choosing the best sixteen (16) projects that were presented later to the CNRU General Assembly members on February 27, 2024, for the final selection of 7 best projects to be submitted to UNESCO/PP Secretariat.

In the framework of the UNESCO Participatory Program (PP), Rwanda National Commission for UNESCO (CNRU) has the pleasure of inviting all Rwandans who meet the requirements to submit his/her project proposal for small grants aligned with UNESCO major programs namely:
- Education and Youth;
- Science and Technology;
- Communication and Information;
- Culture and Human Science.
Who may Apply
Non-Government organizations, Government institutions (Ministries, Public agencies, Schools, High Learning Institutions, …), and Individuals can apply for UNESCO Grants through the Participation Programme (PP) to finance their projects related to the educational/research material or equipment purchase, scientific study publication, conference and training workshop organization.
Required Documents
- Application letter addressed to the Director General of UNESCO through the Secretary General of Rwanda National Commission for UNESCO;
- Recommendation letter from the Ministry in charge of the sector related to the project proposal, in case the project is submitted by a public agency or an individual working as a civil servant in a government institution.
- Recommendation letter from the Authority of a High Learning and/or Research Institution or University for a project proposal coming from the academic and/or research staff.
- Recommendation letter from the Mayor of the District in case the project proposal coming from an Individual, School, or NGO is established and will be implemented at the decentralized level of the district or sector.
- Presentation of a Work Certificate for cooperatives or NGOs.
Application Procedures and period/deadline for submission
The applicant will download and fill out the following application form
The applications will be submitted to CNRU official emails: info@unesco.rw or comnatrwanda@unesco.rw , from 1st up to 31st January 2024. Hard copies are not allowed. Please use the same emails for any inquiry or clarification.
The deadline submission date is 31st January 2024 5PM (Kigali Time)
Notifications
- Items which are not sponsored are: Construction, Buying Cars, Payment of salaries of the employees
- The UNESCO financial support to the selected project will not exceed 26,000 USD.
- The Language of project proposals must be in English or French.
- CNRU will proceed to the selection of 7 best projects to be submitted to UNESCO/PP for approval and support.
- Examples of types of assistance: Conferences, meetings, training workshops and equipment, study or research allowances, consultancy fees, publication, documentation, translation, and reproduction.

5. LIST OF SELECTED PROJECTS FOR UNESCO PP 2022-2023
In the framework of the UNESCO Participation Program, CNRU has received 86 Projects proposals from different public and private institutions, NGOs, and individuals. After a long process of evaluation of these projects by technical sub-commissions who preselected the best sixteen (16) projects that were presented to the General Assembly members on February 25, 2022.
On the due date, General Assembly members met at Lemigo Hotel to analyze and select among the sixteen, 7 best projects to be submitted to UNESCO/PP.
The outcome of the selection process was as follows:
